Maybe it’s just because we spend so much time around surplus gear reducers, but we at Mar-Dustrial can’t help but admire the sheer ingenuity of a Falk gearbox. Gear reducers are fascinating machines – they use a series of gears to convert the speed from a rotating power source into torque for moving heavy loads.
While today’s Falk gearbox looks a lot different than the geared contraptions once developed for windmills and horse-powered devices, it still functions on the same engineering principles. Here are a few of our favorite life lessons inspired by our lifelong passion for surplus gear reducers:
Be ready to adapt to changing circumstances. What you get isn’t always what you need. Successful people are those who take what the universe gives them and transform it into what they need most. You’ve heard the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Here’s the Falk gearbox version: When life gives you speed, convert it to torque.
Tend the things that keep your life running smoothly. Every Falk gearbox relies on careful lubrication to remain in good working condition. Without it, gears and other components wear down more quickly, and eventually the machine will simply stop running. The same is true for people – we all need to maintain the lubricants that keep our lives humming along, such as proper nutrition, exercise and supportive relationships.
Sometimes you just need to change directions. Not all gearboxes are made for modifying speed or torque. Sometimes, all that is needed is to simply change the direction in which power is transmitted. This bears thinking about whenever you feel stuck in life.
