Keeping your Steelflex T couplings properly lubricated is a key step in ensuring a long life and optimal performance. The most common coupling lubricant is grease, which consists of a base oil and a thickener. In ideal conditions, the oil gradually bleeds from the thickener and seeps into the coupling’s components to provide protection against friction.
However, because each T coupling is routinely exposed to extreme centrifugal forces, most general-purpose greases will separate, causing the non-lubricating thickener to build up within the grid grooves. The coupling must be re-lubricated at least once a year to prevent premature hub or grid failure.
To combat this problem, Falk developed its Long Term Grease (LTG), a lubricant formulated specifically for couplings. This lube was designed to withstand high centrifugal forces and provide superior lubrication for the most hardworking T couplings. Falk LTG changes consistency depending on operating conditions; it becomes semifluid when worked, while retaining its heavier grade near the seals to prevent leakage. This allows the grease to resist separation and continue to function effectively for long periods of time.
When a T coupling is lubricated with Falk LTG, it won’t need re-lubrication again until the connected equipment is stopped for servicing. This translates to less maintenance and less downtime, while allowing the coupling to continue to function optimally.
