As those in the agriculture industry are acutely aware, the worst U.S. drought in half a century is threatening to reduce this year’s corn supply – and the shortage is having a ripple effect on the economy.
With corn prices already soaring, many domestic millers may be forced to suspend operations, which in turn could curtail production of meat, milk, eggs and other foods. Concern over the anticipated corn shortage has grown so great that a bipartisan Congressional group has appealed to the Environmental Protection Agency to reduce the amount of renewable fuel required this year under the Renewable Fuels Standard.
The silver lining for U.S. manufacturers is that with less corn entering the granaries – and some operations potentially suspended – the shortage provides the ideal opportunity to make needed gearbox repairs and tune up power transmission equipment without impacting the bottom line.
An untimely drive failure can halt production while the gearbox repair is made, causing costly downtime. By performing recommended gearbox repairs and maintenance while production is slow, facility managers can preempt a disastrous failure and ensure their equipment is in top working order once production picks up again.
Here at Mar-Dustrial, we are a certified Falk Renew & Repair facility, with experience repairing gearboxes from most manufacturers. When making gearbox repairs, we fully disassemble, inspect and clean all components of the reducer; perform a failure analysis; and install all-new bearings, seals, shims and gaskets.
